Myopia shame refers to the sense of shame experienced by people with myopia as a result of prejudice against nearsighted individuals in everyday life and social environments, which leads to negative feelings about wearing glasses.

I think yes, there has always been a societal aesthetic of appearance and physical perfection, and good eyesight seems to be categorized as part of that. Everyone wants to have perfect features, and myopia seems to be a little bit of a flaw. This aesthetic has somehow influenced the way I think about my eyesight.

In today's society, appearance is widely valued and people are often influenced by the media, advertising and social media platforms. For nearsighted people like myself, myopia does have some impact on appearance.
